The Bible teaches that hope is not just a wishful thought but a confident expectation based on faith in God. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word for hope, batah, means confidence, security, and trust. It appears in verses like Job 6:20 and Psalm 16:9, showing that biblical hope is about having peace because of God’s faithfulness.

In the New Testament, the Greek word elpis also means confident expectation, not uncertainty. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” This means that hope in the Bible is closely tied to faith—trusting that God will fulfill His promises.

The heroes of faith in Hebrews 11 acted with confidence because they had hope in God. They were not guessing or wishing for a good outcome—they were sure of God’s promises. As believers, we are called to have this same kind of hope and to share it with others (1 Peter 3:15).

Biblical hope is not just a feeling; it is a solid foundation. When we trust in Jesus, our hope is certain because it rests on God’s Word and His unchanging character. As John 6:47 says, “He who believes in Me has everlasting life.” This kind of hope gives us peace and strength, knowing that God is always faithful.
