Addressing Depression, Confusion, and Negative Emotions
The Bible does not shy away from the realities of depression, confusion, or other negative emotions. In fact, it offers comfort and assurance in these times. The Psalms, often attributed to King David, communicate a raw honesty about life's darkest moments. Psalm 34:17-18 assures us that 'the righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.' Isaiah 41:10 similarly offers divine reassurance: 'So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.' When facing anger or temptation, the Bible advises a measured response. Ephesians 4:26-27 cautions against allowing anger to lead to sin, while James 1:19-20 promotes being 'quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.' Managing our emotions is not about suppression but about seeking peace through the wisdom and guidance found in scripture.
